November 29, 1963 Lyndon B. Johnson and J. Edgar Hoover
(Third call between the two.)
Hoover: Usually the [Presidential
car in the past] has had steps on the back next to the bumpers. And they're usually then one on either side standing on those steps
at the back bumper.
Hoover: Whether the President asked for [that not be done, we don't know].
(No Secret Service on the bumper would make for a clear shot at the President.)
Jack Ruby
(Talking to the press)
Everything pertaining to what's happening has never come to the surface. [The world will never know the true fact]s, of
what occurred, my motive.
I push the bond around the whirlwind.
Ruby: [The people had that had so much to gain], and had such
an ulterior motive, but put me in a position I'm in, will never let the true facts come above board to the world.
Reporter: Are these
people in very high positions Jack?
Ruby: Yes.
Give you too much, they could battle you.
Jack Ruby
(Death bed "confession". The confession is in the reversals.)
Reporter: When did you finally realize that something had happened?
Ruby: Well, [it happened with
such a] a blur that
It happened in such a blur that before I knew it I was down on the ground. [The officers
had me on the ground].
Reporter: Had you realized you had done anything?
Ruby: Well, really, it happened
so fast, and everything else, I can't recall [what had happened from the time I]
came to the bottom
of the [ramp until the police officers] had me on the ground.
Reporter: Had you ever planned anything
like this?
Ruby: [I was so emotionally upset], for three days.
That's why I'm shown the offer.
The ironic part of this is [had I made an illegal] turn, behind the bus to the parking
lot. Had I gone the way I was supposed to go straight down Main street, I would never have had met this fate.
(J. Edgar Hoover described him as: an "equal' maniac. He liked to be in the lime light, and knew all the police. They made him kind of a police character hanging around police headquarters.)
March 1964 Arthur M. Schlesinger and John Kennedy Jr.
(3 year old John Jr. walked into the room while Jacqueline Kennedy was being interviewd.)
Schlesinger: John you went to the airport
today.
John Jr.: Yah
Schlesinger: Did you like it?
John Jr.: Yes
Schlesinger: John. What happened to your father?
John Jr.: So, he's gone
to heaven.
Schlesinger: He's gone to heaven?
John Jr.: Yah.
Schlesinger: Do you remember him?
John Jr.: Yah.
Schlesinger: What do you remember?
John
Jr.: I remem, [I remember everything]!
