Commercials:
Psychology in advertising has long been used as an effective means to sell a product or service. Millions could be made or lost based upon an ad campaign. Reverse speech that may be within the ad’s message could be the determining factor for a positive, or negative effect on the outcome of the commercial. A company could do their bottom line well by having a commercial analyzed for reverse speech prior to its launch.
VD is for Everybody
VD is for Everybody was a 1970s era public service announcement ad campaign by the Ad Council. The message is supposed to be venereal disease (VD) can be caught by anyone. The ad has been posted on YouTube. Among some of the comments from viewers are that it is a catchy song, but several comments are similar to “This looks like a promotional video that encourages you to receive or transmit VD”, “I love commercials that encourage us to share venereal diseases”, & “This message in a way is telling people that its sort of fashionable to get VD. I know it’s not what was intended”. The viewers appear to be getting mixed messages. Could a speech reversal found within the ad’s song reveal a clue as to why?
